This body of work was submitted as required for the completion of her MFA in 2024.
These prints are part of her MFA research project ‘The Visible Void: Navigating the Loss of Cultural Knowledge’.
The Visible Void presents Fristad’s navigation of the deprivation of First Nations cultural knowledge and information that has occurred within her family. She uses mass-produced domestic objects and commercial stock images as metaphysical vessels to express the grief tied to this loss. This project reflects her ongoing journey to reconnect with lost cultural knowledge and identity, using the void as both a personal and critical exploration of absence, memory, and reconciliation.
