BIOGRAPHY
Freyja Fristad is an emerging print-based artist and proud Wiradjuri woman of mixed-European heritage, currently living on Dharawal Country (Sydney, Australia). She holds an MFA in Printmaking from the National Art School. Fristad was the recipient of the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award (Friends of Hazelhurst Local Artist Award) in 2025, the National Art School Aboriginal Art Centre Internship and Print Council of Australia's Colin Holden Print Commission in 2024, the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize (Indigenous Emerging) in 2023, and the Megalo Studio and Gallery Residency Award (Printmaking) and National Art School Mark Henry Cain Memorial Travel Scholarship in 2022. In 2025, she was a finalist in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize (Indigenous Emerging), Walyalup I Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award, and Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Prize. In 2023, she was a finalist the Lloyd Rees Emerging Artist Award, and Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows, including her solo Between Vessel and Void at PARKER Contemporary, as well as in recent group shows such as Edition 6 at Our Neon Foe, The PostGrad Show at the National Art School, DISRUPTION: Discourse and Exchange at 16Albermarle project space, and Wish You Were Here: Megalo Artists in Residence 2013-2023 at Megalo Print Studio. In 2025, she presented works in the Works On Paper sector of Sydney Contemporary with PARKER Contemporary, Megalo Print Studio, and Print Council of Australia.
Her prints have been acquired by Megalo Print Studio, City of Sydney, and Print Council of Australia, among others.
Fristad has delivered print-based workshops and classes at the National Art School.
